Carers and children. Operations. Mattering.

The situation:

An after-school care group was growing fast. Their programs were in-demand, their places full, and their staff committed to going over and above. But, with great growth and passion comes overwhelm and fatigue. Add complicated COVID shutdown requirements to the mix and you’ve got burnout. Leaders quickly realised they needed to put their heads together, brainstorm better ways to work, and show as much appreciation for their people as humanly possible.

What they did:

Initially, the company’s leaders put their heads together with Modern People for a strategic planning session. The goal was to navigate operational blockages and find better ways to grow. Then, senior and emerging leaders collectively upskilled through Modern Leaders, fostering new thinking and laying the foundations for a culture of appreciation.

The impact it made:

Both senior and emerging leaders took different parts of the program’s teachings and ran with them. They addressed their purpose and values as a company, then looked at how they realise their people’s potential, and connected them to meaningful work. Through that process, they realised that if they Create Mattering, it not only supported their people’s emotional wellbeing; it created a chain reaction that reaches the children in their care. As a group, they identified that Mattering could not only cultivate the culture of appreciation they wanted, but it could also help children to realise they are deeply valued and significant to the world around them.

The company’s next steps are to embark on the next phase of their leadership development through a series of Masterclasses and Executive Coaching mentorships.
